Let’s go fly a kite!

What fun it is to fly a kite!   Gordon and I have clocked up a few kite-memories with our children and grandchildren:  in a park in Port Elizabeth, South Africa; above a white-chalk cliff called Beachy Head overlooking the English Channel, in a farmer’s field adjacent to our home in Hertfordshire.  Without fail – great family fun!  Are you recalling kite-memories now?  My brother Chris, working on a Texas University ship from time to time, joined a kite-competition on the ship’s deck.
Our daughter Isabelle skyped from Tokyo, telling of their kite-flying fun this morning!
  1. Imagine the lot of a kite without a kite-flyer…..either it would have no lift-off or it might drift off on a current out of sight.
  2. Imagine the lot of a Christian without a hope, a promise that is sealed by God’s own true Word.
The Christian who has a very sure hope as an anchor for the soul: is a greatly encouraged Christian.
Hebrews 6:16 People swear by someone greater than themselves, and the oath confirms what is said and puts an end to all argument. 17 Because God wanted to make the unchanging nature of his purpose very clear to the heirs of what was promised, he confirmed it with an oath. 18 God did this so that, by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope set before us may be greatly encouraged. 19 We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.
  • Our God wants us to have a great assurance so He confirms his promise with an oath.
  • Our hope is not a nebulous crossing of fingers and touching wood.  Jesus is our hope!
  • Our anchor of hope is Jesus himself, who died for our sins and was raised for our justification.
  • Christ is the anchor of our entire life, our every circumstance – and for both body and soul.
Hallejuah!  Jesus is in us, the hope of glory (Col. 1:27). He will not lose his grip on us. Our anchor Jesus is steadfast and dependable forever. In the hour of our sickness, persecution, and death, when all other anchors fail, Jesus will hold us fast.
Now THIS is the hope we take hold of by faith and glimpsing its implications, encouragement flows.  What an excellent starting point for those bluer than blue days.
