Zion!

My friends and I are, by God's inspiration and the joy of finding Him in His Word, now on Day 16
of our Two Year Reading Plan (to be found on the Gospel Coalition Website).

Here are a few pointers about "Zion".  I wonder how many Bible references would "pop up" by
searching this topic?  Probably more than enough to qualify for a thesis!

In any case, here are just a few examples to chew on, to wish for and to go after.
Psalm 14:7Oh, that salvation for Israel would come out of Zion!    When the Lord restores the fortunes of his people,    let Jacob rejoice, let Israel be glad.
Zion plays an important role in the identity of the people of Israel.
  • Geographically Zion is the hill on which Jerusalem stands - not sure exactly where in the city.  Some say it’s in the city of David.  Some think Zion is the Temple Mount itself.
  • Zion is associated with Jerusalem, capital of David’s kingdom and the centre of Yahweh’s divine rule through the Davidic kings.
  • Zion is considered the dwelling of Yahweh - His throne and authority.
  • God rules from Zion (Ps 9:1)
  • God blesses from Zion (Ps 128:5)
  • God shines forth from Zion (Ps 50:2)
  • God sends help and salvation from Zion (Ps 14:7)
  • Yahweh loves Zion (Ps 87:2)
  • God chose Zion for his own (Psalm 78)
  • God will have compassion on Zion (Psalm 102:13)
  • God will ultimately restored and save Zion (Psalm 69:35)
